BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago snapped the Barbadians’ three-game winning streak Sunday when they whipped the home side by 31 runs in the Barbados National Sports Council’s (NSC) Invitational Under-13 cricket tournament.
Kieron Kanhai stroked an aggressive half century and Varinda Jagroop snared three wickets to set up the T&T result that avenged their tense first-match loss last Wednesday.
In Sunday’s other match, St Kitts All Stars defeated the local NSC All Stars to record their first win of the series.
At Bank Hall, T&T posted 188 for six off their 30 overs after Kanhai’s blistering 74 off 66 balls.
Jamalee Johnson (29), Jesse Button (26 not out) and Brian Christmas (21) were the next highest scorers for the T&T U13s while Ricardo Small-Boyce (2-27) and Robert Cave (2-35) shared four wickets for Barbados.
Chasing 189 to win, Barbados got an attacking 64 from Jafarri Toppin and 27 from their captain Lee Gaskin but fell short at 157 for nine off their 30 overs to sink to their first defeat of the tournament.
Leg-spinner Jagroop, with three for 32, led the bowling for T&T, who had lost by 12 runs to Barbados in their opening match. Johnson (2-20) and Christmas (2-30) grabbed two wickets apiece for T&T to complete valuable all-round performances. Colin Archibald registered a match-winning all-round effort at Dover to propel St Kitts to victory.
Batting first, the NSC side scored 139 for eight off 30 overs with Joshua Bishop (30 not out) and Nicholas Kirton (21) the chief scorers.Fast bowler Archibald claimed three for 26 and then smashed a top score of 42 not out to spur the Leeward Islanders to an easy victory at 140 for three in just 19.2 overs,
