The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) said about 10, 000 Linden residents will benefit from improved water supply when its new well is completed in March.
In a press release, GWI said works started on the well in Amelia’s Ward on Thursday, with funding provided by the Central Housing and Planning Authority. The project was awarded to Nabi Construction Inc. at a cost of $84,969,199.
According to GWI Water Resource Engineer Marlon Daniels, the new well will be drilled to a target depth of 400 feet with the capacity to serve 10,000 residents.
This includes residents of Amelia’s Ward, Kara Kara Housing Scheme, Industrial Area and Retrieve. The beneficiaries of the project said they are anticipating the completion of the well station as these areas continue to expand thereby creating more demand for water.
GWI said its scientific services department will perform quality tests on the water from the well to ensure that it is safe for consumption.
