Guyanese are being urged to shop local by the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) since these commodities offer a more affordable and healthier alternative to imported products.
The GMC, in a release, noted that at this time of the year consumers tended to increase their food purchases “which often included a variety of foreign made goods, many of which are being produced here in Guyana”.
Shopping local, the GMC said, is an opportunity for local producers to capitalise on increase of demand and contributes to job creation and the overall health of the country’s economy.
The GMC, in its release said that locally produced products can be found throughout all major supermarkets and GMC’s Guyana Shop.
The GMC further said that it will continue to work with farmers, agro-processors and stakeholders to ensure that locally produced agro-products meet acceptable international standards and are made available locally at affordable prices.
