The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) recently assisted eight families who suffered losses due to fire and it advises persons in need that though its office is closed for the holiday season they can still access help.
In a press release, the GRC said it provided assistance to Ramrattie Roopchand from a family of six, of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD); Rabindra Monsar from a family of six of Garnett Street, Newtown; Oneaka Victor from a family of six of Soesdyke, EBD; Savitri Shaw from a family of three of Vigilance, ECD; Bissoondyal Maraj from a family of three of Success, ECD; Torendra Seepersaud from a family of three of Vryheid’s Lust, ECD; Marilyn Sharples from a family of seven of Diamond Sea dam, East Bank Demerara and Parvan Outar from a family of two of Mon Repos, ECD.
Meanwhile, the GRC held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday where its executive body was re-elected en bloc.
It comprises Yvonne Hinds, chairman; Maurice Amres, vice-chairman; Barbara Walrond, treasurer; Angelique Bispat, secretary; Nirmala Ramroop-ter-Welle, assistant secretary and Bernice Mansell, adviser.
Additionally, the council expressed appreciation to its donors and supporters. In particular, it cited the management of Metro Office and Computer supplies, for donating a Canon Image Runner Photocopier, which the GRC expected to enhance its ability to fulfil its mandate.
The GRC closed its office on Wednesday for the year. It will reopen on January 6.
However, arrangements are in place to render assistance in case of emergencies. Persons who need assistance are advised to call the GRC on telephone numbers 223-1568 or 658-0531.
