Riddim Squad’s success story continued in the 20th Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament as the debutants got past Rosignol United 2-1 while Victoria Kings sang songs of sweet revenge when they ousted New Amsterdam United 3-1.
Playing in front of a mammoth crowd at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground on Sunday, the two home town teams sent their supporters home in anguish.
But first, the Berbicians on and off the field experienced jubilation when Olvis Mit scored in the 41st minute for Rosignol United.
The goal forced the Riddim Squad players to compose themselves and the Hope brothers Sceyon and Sheldon, teamed up to become a nuisance to coach Keith Ojeer and his boys.
Sceyon Hope scored in the 55th minute and Riddim Squad took complete control of the game thereafter before Sheldon Hope scored a fantastic header in the dying stages of the game to send his team through to a quarter-final clash with Sunburst Camptown on Christmas Day at the Guyana National Stadium.
“This was a very important win for us,” coach Wayne `Wiggy’ Dover told Stabroek Sport after
the game.
“I’m pleased with how my team played and hats off to them and now we’ll focus on our next game.”
Meanwhile, Victoria Kings avenged their NAMILCO sudden-death penalty defeat to NA United with a come-from-behind victory.
Ten minutes into the game, Colin Bowry sent NA United 1-0 up, a lead they would hold until the 42nd minute when the Kings found the equaliser through Pierre Joseph.
Boasting several players with professional experience, Victoria Kings used that advantage to the fullest with the Tobago United player Tichard Joseph getting the go ahead goal in the 60th minute.
Three minutes later, Aubrey Gibson sealed the deal to send the Kings through to a clash against BK International Western Tigers on Wednesday at the Georgetown Football Club Ground (GFC).
