Boost skills to attract tourists to Region Two

Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai urged nine youth from Region Two who had participated in an entrepreneurship training programme to boost these skills and help to develop their communities.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Sukhai told the group that the purpose of the training was to teach them proper methods of documenting cultural developments for tourism production and developing business skills as the sessions also providing training in marketing and tour guiding. The youth, from Kabakaburi and St Monica, Region Two, were also told that tourism was particularly important as there is a steady flow of tourists into Region Nine who favour birding and sightseeing along the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway.

Sukhai also told the group that as the programme ends they should be returning home motivated with ideas to make attractions in their communities more alluring. She also urged them to apply all their new-found knowledge to attract resources that will further develop their business potential. The minister said the training provided an opportunity for them to give back to their communities as they will be at the forefront of helping to develop the country.

According to GINA, the programme which started last year, ended on Saturday. The meeting was hosted in the ministry’s boardroom.
