Gregory King, the miner who was reportedly stabbed by his reputed wife on Monday, was yesterday still a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition.
A relative of the injured man told Stabroek News yesterday that King is now a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. The family member said that King is conscious and has been communicating with relatives sporadically.
The 26-year-old miner was on Monday night transferred from the Bartica Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital after being stabbed to the left side of his chest in the vicinity of his heart. Following the incident, the man’s reputed wife was taken into police custody after she allegedly confessed to stabbing the man. This newspaper understands that the woman remains in police custody.
Meanwhile, the relative told this newspaper that the police visited King yesterday but she was unable to say whether the injured man had given the police a statement. However, she said that the man seemed reluctant to discuss the incident and was concerned about the woman and the well-being of her children.
The stabbing incident reportedly occurred at Itaballi where King lived with the woman. Relatives said that it has only been a few weeks now since King and the woman started living together.
