The festive season ended for the family and relatives of Alwyn Jordan called John when they received the news that he had perished in a collision on Tuesday night.
The 54-year-old who resided at 8 Fellowship Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was heading home when the fatal accident occurred at Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD.
According to a police press release, he was proceeding along the roadway in his motor vehicle PGG 6760 when he collided with motor vehicle PLL 2473 which was proceeding in the opposite direction.
The accident which occurred about 10.45 pm saw occupants of both vehicles being taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where Jordan was pronounced dead on arrival. The other driver and passengers were subsequently treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital and sent away.
The driver of PLL 2473 is in police custody and assisting with investigations, the police press release said.
His brother, Henry Jordan, said Alwyn was a nice and quiet person. Henry said that he had
flown into the country for a relative’s wedding and “now we end up with a dead”.
Jordan’s mother, Thelma Jordan, said her son was very pleasant and a faithful child to his family. She remembered that she received a telephone call about the accident before 11 pm from a detective. She said Alwyn was on his way home when the accident occurred.
Jordan, who was a miner, came out of the interior about three weeks back, his mother said. Reflecting on her last moments with her son on the morning of the accident, she said “I could sit down as a mother and talk to him. Onto yesterday morning before he go out he came for his tea and we was in the kitchen chatting.”
As Stabroek News was speaking to Thelma Jordan at the house, the mangled vehicle in which Alwyn perished arrived and when she saw it, her grief was too much to contain as she broke down in loud weeping. Other family members gathered were also overcome when they saw the vehicle with its front smashed in.

Jordan told this newspaper that funeral plans will be on hold until her son’s wife, who is a nurse in England, arrives in the country. A post-mortem examination is also to be done she said but she was not sure when.
