PNCR Leader Robert Corbin and the party’s Region 10 regional committee hosted a Christmas luncheon for 175 senior citizens at the Christianburg Primary School on Sunday.
In a press release the party said the luncheon is hosted annually in Linden in memory of the late Dudley Corbin, father of the party leader, who spent years working for the development of the area. Regional Chairman Mortimer Mingo extended Christmas greetings on behalf of the party then lunch was served by the youth of the Linden Guyana Youth and Student Movement, the Corbin family and other party executives.
In his Christmas greetings Corbin thanked the elders for their contributions to the development of their community and the country.
He also reminded the gathering that Christmas was the season of goodwill and urged them to reflect upon the birth of Christ.
Additionally, party representative for Region 10 Vanessa Kissoon coordinated the cultural programme during which the audience was entertained with songs, dances and comedy featuring both youth and adult talent from the region. The performers included Cassie Jordan who recited a poem of her own composition, comedian Yvonne Drakes and singer Dennis Parkinson who sung several carols and led the senior citizens in community singing.
Several elders reminisced on past experiences and some gave spontaneous performances. PNCR executives including MPs Amna Ally and Africo Selman also distributed gifts and hampers to the seniors. Ann Greene of the Region Four regional committee also attended the luncheon.
Meanwhile, Faye Allicock of Rockstone community and Norman Chapman of Linden expressed appreciation to the Corbin family and the party on the seniors behalf.
