Digicel, the largest mobile telecommunications operator in the Caribbean yesterday commenced its maiden voyage with the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club by handing over a cheque worth $275,000 for the Boxing Day Race Meet.
Present at the simple hand-over ceremony at Digicel’s Head Office yesterday was Sales Manager Dwayne Scott, who said that the company was proud to be associated with the Kennard Memorial Turf Club.
Scott said Digicel, who are strong supporters of the equestrian sport, was happy to help promote the sport in Berbice.
Honorary president of the club, Justice Cecil Kennard, upon accepting the contribution, stated on behalf of the club, that they were very happy that Digicel has decided to come onboard for the first time. Kennard added that he was certain after Digicel officials witnessed what is expected to be a terrific day of racing, they will be future partners of the club. Digicel is onboard to sponsor the two years (Open) – Guyana and West Indies Bred Class which has a first prize of $200,000.

Some of Guyana’s top horses will be on show at the Boxing Day event.
