PNCR leader Robert Corbin says amidst the Christmas celebrations citizens must remember the true meaning of Christmas and assist those who are needy and otherwise challenged.
In a press release Corbin said the divine birth of Christ brought hope and salvation to all humanity and provides the solid foundation of the Christian faith. In keeping with this he said he is hopeful that citizens will extend the love and goodwill prevalent at this time of the year to the poor and needy, the chronically ill, those who are bereaved and others who may be challenged to provide for their daily existence.
Corbin said he is also keenly aware of other trials, difficulties and national embarrassments that most citizens have experienced and continue to experience. “Yet, it is my hope that Christmas provides us with some respite,” he said. The PNCR leader said he hopes that citizens can find time to contemplate ways of overcoming the many obstacles that are standing in the way of Guyana’s future. “I trust that an understanding of the true meaning of the season will help us find new resolve to work together to improve the overall condition of our ailing country,” he said.
Corbin also said while Christmas is a Christian commemorative event it rises above considerations of religion, race, creed and political affiliation and creates a spirit of oneness which all Guyanese have traditionally shared. He also said he wished this same spirit would pervade the country throughout the year.
Meanwhile, to citizens who celebrate the festival of Kwanza which starts on Boxing Day, Corbin extended greetings and asked them to reflect on the seven principles of this observance: unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, co-operative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. He also urged celebrants to work continuously to strengthen the family.
