The Mayor and City Councillors (M&CC) is urging the nation to reflect on the deeper meaning of Christmas as they go about exchanging gifts and making merry.
In a press release the M&CC said “Christ came with a mission, a sense of purpose and full knowledge of his role and ultimate destiny.” In similar manner, citizens also have a mission to protect and care for the natural, economic, social, cultural and spiritual environment, the release said. “We, too, have a purpose, to spread love, goodwill and peace to all mankind,” it added.
The M&CC said peace has eluded many leaders and nations and the lack of it has brought untold suffering to millions, in particular, women and children. The world remains in crisis caused by hatred, intolerance and ignorance which is why the message of Christmas remains important and relevant to all. The MCC also posited that one way in which man can perpetuate peace is by inculcating a more neighbourly attitude to each other and by being tolerant of other cultures and by respecting the law.
