PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Dashing teenaged West Indies opener Adrian Barath will undergo an MRI scan next week to determine the exact location of a hamstring injury that sidelined him from the final Test against Australia last week.
The 19-year-old right-hander, who returned here from Australia on Tuesday, visited his local doctor on Wednesday and was advised to take the MRI scan.
“While training I felt a pull in the hamstring and we decided to play it safe. Since then we have been treating it and now the doctor has asked for the MRI scan and we are going to do that now,” said Barath, who became the youngest West Indies batsman to score a century in Tests.
“When we locate the area where the injury is, the doctor will treat it accordingly. I am keen to get back to training with the regional first class tournament upon us.”
Barath was one of the revelations of the series, slamming a stroke-filled 104 at Brisbane in the first Test West Indies lost by an innings and 65 runs.
He managed just three and 17 in the second Test at Adelaide before being sidelined with injury in the third match at Perth.
“I was very happy to become the youngest player to get a century for the West Indies and I am really happy at the moment,” Barath said.
“I am glad to be home with my family for Christmas and really looking to spend some time with my dad. I am hoping for a great new year and will be doing my best to represent West Indies well.”
