Foulmouth murderer still at large

…despite pleas from villagers

Almost one week since the gruesome murder of 50-year-old, Essequibo River resident Patricia Williams, the suspect remains at large as relatives of the deceased plead with the authorities to apprehend him.

William’s niece, Lynette Braithwaite told Stabroek News yesterday that residents in the small community remain terrified, noting that the man has been making several attempts to move from the small riverside community. She said the police seem to be prolonging their investigations into the incident since according to her, “maybe more people got to die before the police do something”. She said police officials stationed at Bartica informed the residents that they were trying to avoid shooting the man but according to Braithwaite, something has to be done as the community remains unsafe.

Another resident told Stabroek News yesterday that police had been questioning the man’s relatives since they believed they were aiding the suspect.

She related that two nights ago, a single mother of two had moments earlier moored her boat at a nearby ’landing’ when the suspect came out of the bushes and attempted to remove the boat. She said the woman raised an alarm and the man escaped in the nearby bushes where he had been hiding since the incident.

Williams’ partially nude body was discovered by residents in the area sometime after 11:30 last Monday evening in a clump of bushes.

The woman had just dropped off her brother and was in the process of dropping off the suspect when she was attacked. Two persons from the community were questioned by the police in relation to the incident but they were later released.
