Collis Chase, 24, of 334 Cummings Street, Georgetown is alleged to have assaulted Police Corporal Ravendra Stanley on December 20 at Albert Street. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is also alleged on the same day and place, Chase made use of threatening behaviour to Police Constable Latoya Benjamin. He pleaded not guilty to this charge as well. Chase on the same day and place as well, allegedly behaved disorderly in a public place. He pleaded not guilty.
In his submissions for bail, attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson told the court that his client was a supervisor at Caribbean International Development located at Lot D Mc Doom. He said that prior to these charges his client’s record was unblemished and he believed that the book was being thrown at his client, since the incidents arose at a party at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club and the officers were not on official duty.
Furthermore, he said, Chase’s sister, who was also charged with the same offences, was not notified. Thompson said that from his understanding, the officer was assaulting Chase’s sister, Keisha Chase.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that the officers were on duty and were called by the promoter of the event since Chase was behaving disorderly. He then objected to bail.
When questioned about the sister not being aware of her charges, Telford made an application for her to be summoned.
The absence of the VCs led to Thompson moving for a dismissal which was later granted. Meanwhile, Keisha Chase’s matter is set for January 5.
