According to a release from the MoA, the National Weather Watch station has advised that the spring tide will continue until January 6, 2010.
Earlier yesterday, Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud and a technical team inspected vulnerable communities along the East Coast of Demerara and interacted with residents and farmers. Persaud stated that the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) and the Mahaica, Mahaicony, Abary-Agricultural Development Authority are on full alert to support the Sea Defence Unit.
In addition, the NDIA has already mobilized an excavator which is on standby at Montrose while clogged residential canals and culverts had been cleared.
According to the release, the MoA will continue to support the Ministry of Public Works and Communication in light of the current El Nino situation with additional monitoring over the next 48 hours.
