He had pleaded guilty to the charges of malicious damage to property and assault causing actual bodily harm.
He admitted that on Christmas Day he unlawfully and maliciously damaged a wardrobe mirror valued $7, 000, the property of Naomi Braithwaite, who he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Samuels stated that he was drunk and had gone to Braithwaite’s home on Christmas Day where they got into an argument which resulted in him slapping and later shoving her into the wardrobe that caused the mirror to break.
Braithwaite, who was also present in court, stated that she and Samuels had broken off their relationship a month ago since he recently became violent towards her. She noted that even so Samuels still kept in contact with her.
She said that on the day of the incident she had told Samuels over the phone that she did not want him calling her since she was not interested in him anymore.
She noted that later that day she was at home sweeping her room, when Samuels walked into her home uninvited and started an argument with her.
She said that the argument got so heated that Samuels dealt her several slaps to her face and had afterwards shoved her into the wardrobe causing the mirror to break.
She noted that Samuels then picked her up and attempted to throw her down the stairs but her step-mother intervened and prevented him from doing so. Samuels afterwards ran out of the house.
Braithwaite said that she was scared for her life and had noted that “he (Samuels) started being violent to me in August when he took my cell phone and pelt me in my head with it at the Stadium”.
Samuels, who appeared contrite, was later escorted out of the court by a policeman after informing the court that he will recompense Braithwaite for the mirror.
