Hits and Jams partner robbed of $1M by gunman

Hits and Jams entertainer Dwight Ferguson was robbed of $1M in the city yesterday afternoon. Two men have been taken into police custody.

Police in a press statement last evening said the robbery occurred at about 3.30 pm yesterday at Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown. Ferguson, 26, was attacked and robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

Investigations, police said, have revealed that Dwight Ferguson was standing by his motor vehicle, in which he had placed $1M, when two men rode up on a motor cycle. The pillion rider discharged a round into the air, police reported, and this caused Ferguson to seek shelter away from the vehicle.

The armed man then smashed one of the vehicle’s windows, grabbed the money and escaped on the motorcycle with his accomplice. A spent shell was recovered at the scene by the police. Investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, when contacted last evening Hits and Jams Public Relations Officer Mondale Smith declined to comment saying that he was yet to be informed of what had taken place.

There were also reports that a larger amount of money was stolen.

A senior police source told Stabroek News last evening that initially it was reported that $1M was stolen. However, at the police station later, persons connected to the incident said that an additional amount was supposed to be delivered. This claim is being investigated.

The man who delivered the money and another were in police custody up to press time last night aiding with investigations, the source said.
