Think of the animals before firing off squibs, firecrackers

Dear Editor,

I am appealing, no pleading for our dumb, four-legged animals (dogs) who on all festive occasions are subject to an onslaught from the deafening noise of squibs and firecrackers.

It has become a ritual and goes on with impunity as our dogs run for cover and indulge in unnatural acts like running into the house and knocking down furniture, or like yesterday jumping into the car through the open window. Any caring dog-lover would empathize with their animals, as just a few years ago I lost a dog which suffered a heart attack from this ‘celebration.’

Please, please don’t fire off squibs or indulge in this illegal and insensitive practice. I am asking the police to use unmarked vehicles to apprehend those persons who do.

Yours faithfully,
