A man was last evening rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was injured when a girl reportedly threw squibs at him. The injured man is Ervin Vieira who sustained injuries to both of his feet.
Jennifer Sobers, the man’s mother, told Stabroek News last evening that her son smokes and lives on the streets in Tiger Bay, not far from her home. She said that some time after 7 last evening, she received reports that her son had been injured in a squib attack. When she investigated, she saw the severity of her son’s injuries. According to her, her son was lying on the pavement trying to sleep when the girl, who is said to be about 11, approached him and threw three squibs in his direction. The squibs exploded and injured the man. “Meh brother foot bust up,” a close relative of the injured man said.
Sobers, who was visibly upset, said that the squib situation had got out of hand and that sterner action needed to be taken.
“Whole night they lighting squibs,” she said.
