MUMBAI, India, CMC – Rising West Indies fast bowling star Kemar Roach is among eight players from the Caribbean who will find out today if they have been successful in securing berths in the Indian Premier League auction later this month.
The 21-year-old, who left tongues wagging with his searing pace following his first tour Down Under, joined Carlton Baugh Jr, Tino Best, Daren Ganga, Wavell Hinds, Kieron Pollard, Lendl Simmons and Ramnaresh Sarwan in registering for the January 19 event ahead of the upcoming season of the lucrative Twenty20 tournament.
Trinidad and Tobago players Lendl Simmons, Kieron Pollard and Daren Ganga all showcased their skills in last October’s Twenty20 Champions League when they helped propel the twin-island republic to the final of the world club tournament.
Simmons also shone in the World Twenty20 Championship in England last year while Pollard has also been impressive in the ongoing Twenty20 Big Bash in Australia.
Best and Hinds, meanwhile, previously played in the rival Indian Cricket League and will be hoping for a chance to shine in what has become international cricket’s premier multi-million dollar T20 tournament.
West Indies captain Chris Gayle, Fidel Edwards, Dwayne Bravo, and Dwayne Smith are all expected to compete in the 2010 championship, having already secured contracts.
Currently, Gayle, Bravo and Smith are all doing battle in the T20 Big Bash while Edwards is injured.
