PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Without a four-day title in three years, regional one-day kings Trinidad & Tobago will seek to rectify their recent lack of success when they leave for Jamaica today to face Combined Campuses and Colleges in the opening round of WICB first class matches starting Friday.
T&T are coming off impressive runs of form in the Twenty20 Champions League last October where they finished as runners up, and in the WICB President’s Cup in November where they took the title.
Skipper Daren Ganga said that the team was looking forward to the season and were inspired by the goal of breaking their drought in the tournament.
“We are eagerly looking forward to this new season because of its new format,” said Ganga.
“The four-day title has avoided us for some time now and the technical staff and all the players are looking ahead positively and hoping to bring back the title in the twin-island republic once more.”
The 13-man squad has seen the recall of fast bowling all-rounder Richard Kelly who will join Ravi Rampaul and Reyad Emrit as the pace options.
Ganga will lead the batting department which also comprises West Indies discard Lendl Simmons, rookie Justin Guillen and West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin. “The team is a well balanced team and a mixture of youth and experience, an experienced seam attack, experienced and well accomplished spinners, a talented top-order, solid middle-order but most importantly they are very focused, hungry and dedicated team led by Daren Ganga,” manager Colin Borde said.
Last season, T&T finished fourth in the campaign after eight draws and just two wins.
