Kitchen utensils, appliances and furniture were removed from the New Palm Court yesterday morning after a court order, relating to outstanding rent owed to the building’s owner, was served.
Stabroek News understands that a man showed up at the Main Street, Georgetown location in the company of a police officer and two bailiffs to serve the court order.
The New Palm Court was once a hot spot for night entertainment.
It was closed some time last October after the owner became involved in a legal matter which, this newspaper was told, is still before the court.
When Stabroek News visited the closed club just after 2 yesterday afternoon a few pieces of furniture were seen in the yard.
The compound’s security guard told this newspaper that the man, bailiffs and police showed up, emptied the section of the building which housed the night club and stacked the items in the yard.
The items were later carted away.
Stabroek News was unable to contact the operator of the business, J.C Paul.
The man, this newspaper was informed, is currently in the US and it is not certain when he will return.
Meanwhile, reports say that J. C Paul owed the owner of the building rent and the matter had landed the parties in court.
