The Central Committee of the WPO says despite the challenges of the past year advances were made regarding legislation for women and children and it looks forward to seeing these implemented in the new year.
In a press release the Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO) applauded the new initiatives taken to improve the lives of citizens particularly those who are underprivileged as it hopes that these can be the building blocks to a better life. It also acknowledges that several countries are still grappling with economic difficulties and is pleased that Guyana did not suffer as much as some countries that had been severely hit.
“We look forward to a more productive year in 2010 and hope that all Guyanese will put their shoulders to the wheel to make out country a safer and cleaner place,” it said. The WPO also salutes the PPP as it observes its 60th anniversary and extends wishes that the “ideals that fired the imagination of the founding leaders will continue to burn brightly in the Party.” It also paid homage to the late President Dr Cheddi Jagan and late former President Janet Jagan for their heroic struggles and tremendous contributions to the nation.
