Cabinet gave its no-objections to eight contracts valued over $300M at its last meeting for 2009 including one for police uniforms valued at $90m.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, Head of the Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon made the announcement at a post-Cabinet media briefing on Old Year’s Day.
In the health sector a $21.4M contract was cleared for the purchase of supplies for malaria treatment and a $36.8M contract was given the no objection for the supply and delivery of a dental boat to ply riverain and hinterland areas.
Additionally, a $34.3M award was approved for the procurement of office supplies and equipment for GECOM; $47.1M was cleared for drilling a well at Hague; $30M was cleared for the procurement of communication and meteorological equipment for the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority; $38M for the construction of market tarmacs at Waterloo in Region Five and Golden Grove/Diamond in Region Four.
Also, $43.5M was cleared for the procurement of vehicles for the Guyana Defence Force and $89.7M given the no-objection for the supply and delivery of uniform materials for the Guyana Police Force.
