Dear Editor,
From the geographical layout of Bartica, it could be seen that it has the potential to be a paradise if the proper people were placed in the right position to make positive suggestions for the future. I suggest that for the year 2010 the following could be done to improve Bartica.
1. The town needs a vibrant Chamber of Commerce to look at avenues for improvement within the business sector, and to lobby government at times when concerns have been raised. These persons should be of standing in the community and recognized for their invaluable contribution to Bartica.
2. There should be a plan to look at the collection and disposal of garbage in a more systematic way. The collection and disposal of garbage should not be done without regard for the discomfort it causes the community.
3. Business places should operate within the ambit of the regulation opening and closing hours.
4. There are too many bottom-house rum shops; this decreases government revenue.
5. There should be a plan to generate funds, such as charges on heavy vehicles entering or leaving Bartica via the Potaro Road.
6. Tourist attractions should be created to generate funds at unique points in Bartica.
7. Street vending should be avoided, and when allowed a heavy fee should be implemented with proper accountability of the funds collected.
8. Competent personnel should run for office in the Local Government Election. The RDC should be an example.
Yours faithfully,
David John
