Dear Editor,
First I must wish the staff of Stabroek News a happy and prosperous New Year 2010, not forgetting our government and opposition members. As for our community, Bartica, 2009 was a good year because people from all walks of life in Guyana came here and set up stalls all over the roadsides, and they all did good business.
The big stores and market stalls got some blows, but the police in Bartica did a fairly good job.
There were regular patrols and stop and search, and noise nuisance was controlled in the New Year, although the moving discos still continue. When these vehicles pass our homes the house zincs and windows vibrate; young and old are affected by these moving boom-boom stereos in cars and 4x4s. As for speed, Bartica is the Dakota Circuit. These drivers are mostly young. As for stray animals, Bartica roads are pasture lands.
GPL did a fine job for our community; we got a good supply of power during Christmas and only had a few minor glitches. Many thanks to the entire staff of GPL Bartica and Guyana Water Inc. Sometimes we get water, sometimes we don’t. Most times the water is brown, however, we are always happy and contented.
However, there is another problem brewing up with the Bartica Speedboat Association and the owner of the port of entry, Kool Breeze. The owner of Kool Breeze claims that certain boat owners are not paying landing fees for their passenger boats to moor alongside the Kool Breeze wharf. He gave all the boats notice to remove by January 10, 2010. Where will they go to load and offload, the T&HD Stelling?
I do hope the Minister of Transport sees this letter and acts swiftly for the sake of the travelling public.
Yours faithfully,
Winston Miller Snr
