Mark Butters of 4 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting Tracey Jones at Alexander Street on January 10.
According to Police Prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford, the couple had gone to buy food on the day in question when an argument broke out between them and the defendant pulled and cuffed Jones.
Meanwhile, Butters told the court that ever since Jones found out that he was mentally ill she started to beat him up. “She does tek all kinda advantage ah me,” Butters said, to which there was an outburst of laughter in the court. “A woman never treat me suh,” he added, as more laughter erupted.
Butters said Jones would make him do all the work and then he had to purchase stuff for her rather than for himself. Jones however told the court that it was Butters who was always beating her up.
Butters is to return to court on February 10.
