A 36-year-old woman pleaded guilty to stealing one bottle of olive oil valued $2,700 from Survival Supermarket on January 8 but the first time offender was placed on a bond.
Shondell Garraway of 19 Middle Road, La Penitence told the court that she went into the store to buy groceries and did not have enough money so she hid the oil up her tights.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson explained to Garraway that the charge carried a minimum fine of $25,000 or 18 months imprisonment. The woman was almost in tears on hearing this.
After further explaining the legal implications, the magistrate placed the woman on a bond to keep the peace for 12 months and warned her never to let it happen again since she was a first offender. The woman, in tears this time, thanked the magistrate and made her way to sign her bond.
