’Total falsehood. It is a smear campaign of lies, half-truths and innuendoes. Smear campaigns do not win elections. Total falsehood. I repeat, sticks and stones may break my bones but words cannot hurt me,’ Persad-Bissessar told the Express in a telephone interview when asked if there was any truth to Panday’s mudslinging and whether she had a problem with alcohol consumption.
Panday and colleagues of Persad-Bissessar, at the political leader’s launch of his electoral campaign last Friday, made subtle indirect remarks on the issue. Panday said Persad-Bissessar was not fit to lead because of her ’weakness’ which makes her vulnerable.
