In the continuing efforts to raise funds for the victims of earthquake ravaged Haiti, the School of the Nations and the Varqua Foundation yesterday raised $300,000 through a car wash initiative.
Students of the school and members of the foundation were assisted by youths from the Tiger Bay area, some of whom are part of an after-school literacy programme at the school.
A press release from School of the Nations revealed yesterday that over 30 students from the school turned out to participate in the drive, which it said netted $300,000 in a single exercise. The release also referred to persons who supported the initiative and used the opportunity to comment on the importance of what the youths were doing. Further, it said one person hailed the selfless acts of the students and young people from the Tiger Bay area.
Haiti, a struggling Caribbean nation, suffered a massive earthquake last week which devastated the capital city of Port-au-Prince and affected an estimated three million persons.
