Transport Sports Club (TSC) yesterday secured a 111-run first innings lead over Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in the final of the Raymond Panday/Cummings Electrical two-day second division tournament.
At the close of play on the first day, TSC were on 234-8 from 50 overs after aggressive half centuries from Shafiek Ishmael (88) and Marc Nicholson, 51.
Captain Shawn Massiah added a patient 47.
Ishmael’s knock included 32 runs in boundaries while Nicholson stoked seven boundaries and two sixes and Massiah, three fours and two sixes.
DCC captain Lyndon Lyght, Edward Burnett, Matthew Marks and Kevin George each took two wickets bowling for DCC.
When DCC batted they were struggling at 77-6 at one point before they were eventually routed for 123.
Gladwin Brandis (22), Jermaine Horatio (21) and Lyght (21) were the main scorers.
Ishmael bowled with great control to end with 4-26 from 16.3 overs.
Azim Azeez supported well with 3-13 from his five overs.
GCB three-day first division tournament over at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) ground,
home team MSC increased their 38-run lead to 175 after Kwame Crosse, resuming on his overnight score of 65, completed an emphatic century.
Crosse finished on an unbeaten 119 as his team reached 299 all out. Nandy Park was dismissed for 124 last Sunday.
By the end of the second day, Nandy Park, behind on 175 runs, were 37-2.
At Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Bourda, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) declared their innings closed yesterday on 330-6 from 90 overs. They then dismissed TSC 189 to secure a first innings lead of 141.
TSC’s Stephen Alves was the top scorer with 49 while Oswel Batson and Devon Nandan contributed with 40 and 34 respectively.
Bowling for GDF Trevon Garraway took 4-51 from 16 overs while Dennis Legay returned figures of 56-3 from 12.3 overs.
In GDF’s second stint at the crease they reached 117-2 at the close with S. Mc Calmon (57) stroking a half century and Marcus Watkins Malteenoesmaking 35.
