A brazen attack yesterday morning by two bandits on a D’Urban Backlands business was foiled by the brave intervention of one of the managers.

A police release issued last evening said that investigations were ongoing into an armed robbery that occurred at about 9:45 am at the Carib Diamond Drilling Company at D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown, during which a female secretary was attacked and robbed by two men armed with a handgun and a cutlass.

The police said that the secretary Lonetta Harry was in the office when the men entered and held her at gunpoint.

They then took away her personal jewellery and a lap top computer and left the building.

According to the police, as the men were escaping the victim raised an alarm and Victor Wilson, who was on his way to work, confronted the two men which resulted in a scuffle between himself and the men.

“Wilson held on to the man with the firearm while the other dropped the lap top computer and escaped with the jewellery,” the police said.  “During the scuffle the man with the firearm attempted to discharge rounds at Wilson but the firearm did not go off. Public-spirited persons went to Wilson’s assistance and the man, along with the unlicensed .38 revolver with five live rounds, was handed over to the police,” the release added.

Meanwhile, Wilson was later presented with a Certificate of High Commen-dation and Award by Commissioner of Police Henry Greene, during the Police Inspectors’ and Sergeants Conference held at Police Officers’ Mess Eve Leary.
