Three Mexican Armed Forces planes have been sent to Haiti carrying between 15 and 20 tonnes of food as well as doctors, rescue workers, engineers and civil protection technicians and personnel, following the catastrophic earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince last week Tuesday.
Moreover, the Mexican Navy will send the Huasteco Hospital boat which will transport medical personnel and another 50 tons of food, and this will be followed by another boat, the Papaloapan, this week, a news release from the Embassy of Mexico at Brickdam in Georgetown said.
This aid follows a call by Mexican President Felipe Calderon to all Mexicans. “Once again, I urge all Mexicans to contribute canned food, drinking water, medicine and other useful items for these tragedies, through the Mexican Red Cross and federal offices…,” the President of Mexico is quoted as saying in the release.
The Embassy of Mexico also expressed its solidarity to the people and government of Haiti.
