Circle tennis serves off in Berbice today

After a six-year absence, the sport of circle tennis returns to the Berbice county today when eight invited secondary schools face off for the title of Circle Tennis Champions at the Rose Hall Estate Welfare Centre ground.

The three-day tournament which is organized by Sports Officer in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Alistair Munroe, commences at 10am and continues tomorrow. Munroe said that if the tournament comes off well, they will be looking to stage another competition the following term.Participants will be given the opportunity to showcase their skills in the All Female and Mix Team categories.

The champions and first runner-up teams will receive incentives while the outstanding male and female playerswill also be rewarded for their performances.

The competition’s organizer said that they are hosting this tournament to make the sport recognized. He said there will also be competitions for Essequibo and Demerara.
