Farfan and Mendes renewed its 15-year alliance with the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) with a $160,000 sponsorship cheque for 2010 yesterday at the company’s head office on Urquhart Street, Cummingsburg.
And from all angles the company feels that it has a responsibility to the youths and their development, according to Managing Director Andrew Mendes.
And CEO/Secretary Hilbet Foster noted that the company had invested over $2M in the club over the years and it has not only sponsored the under-15 team but has also co-sponsored the club’s annual awards ceremony, annual magazine, cricket academy, television programmes and Christmas charity programmes.
“The sponsorship over the years has resulted in three Berbice championships, three runners-up positions, among others, and has produced four national senior players in the Crandon brothers, Assad Fudadin and Delbert Hicks, fifteen national junior cricketers and 36 overall for Berbice,” Foster explained.
Mendes stated that, “It is important for young people to have gainful opportunities through meaningful team sport. Therefore, we (the company) believe that there is an enabling environment for the youngsters.”
The company, which sponsors the under-15 team, was also informed that the team last Sunday had won the Berbice under-15 title and is currently dominating youth cricket in the county having won the under-19 and under-15 titles. Their under-17 and under-23 teams have reached the semifinal stage of their tournament while they also won the Guyana Cricket Board’s Club of the Year award.
The sponsorship will cover the cost of balls, transportation and snacks for the team during 2010.
The company during the year will also co-sponsor several other activities of the club, including the awards ceremony for the RHTYSC’s 20th anniversary celebration in March and the annual magazine.
The management of the club expressed gratitude to June Mendes and the entire management of Farfan and Mendes. Foster thanked the management for standing by the club’s side over the years, for sharing its successes and failures and for this he said that the club will continue to uphold the high standards it has set.
He said in the past the RHTYSC had worked overtime to make a difference in the lives of youths, the elderly and the less fortunate.
