Rescue teams pull back as Haiti aid flows in

PORT-AU-PRINCE, (Reuters) – The search for survivors  of Haiti’s killer earthquake started to wind down as  international rescue teams begin pulling back and aid, though  more plentiful today, was still not enough for the masses  left homeless and injured.

Bus driver remanded over death of octogenarian

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that a 44-year-old bus driver be remanded to prison when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court accused of being involved in the accident at the Linden bus park that caused the death of an octogenarian.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad yesterday officially welcomed Guyana’s Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo at the presidential palace in Tehran, the country’s capital, and they held discussions on several world issues as well as relations between the two countries, the Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reported, according to a GINA release.

Dear Editor, With reference to the letter by Mr Eusi Kwayana captioned ‘Jagan and Rodney were not in competition and not opposed to each other (SN, January 17), this is the first time in the history of Guyana’s politics I came across someone who claimed that Dr Jagan actually said that his party would take up arms.
