The 18-year-old two-time Guyana Open winner secured sponsorship from Andrew Budhan of Universal Sports Store in Alberttown and Captain of the Lusignan Golf Club Jerome Khan.

Persaud, who secured his first win in the prestigious local championships when he was 16 years old, is aiming to compete at the Trinidad and Tobago Open amateur championships billed for March 4-7 at St. Andrews Golf Club in Port-of-Spain.

He received a set of  professional clubs and cash valued at $2000 (US) from Khan while Universal Sports Store provide airline ticket and other paraphernalia to the rising golf sensation.

Persaud, who excelled at a tournament in the twin-island republic two years ago, competes regularly on the Caribbean island.

He will be competing in the championship flight in March and will match skills with 2009 winner Pen Martin.

Persaud won the Power Stout sponsored Guyana Open in November last year against stiff opposition from the United States, Canada, European Union and neighbouring Suriname.

Meanwhile, a strong team will represent Guyana at the Trinidad and Tobago Open and most of the players are fine-tuning their preparation at the East Coast Demerara course.
