BENGUELA, Angola, (Reuters) – Six-times champions Egypt maintained their perfect record at the African Nations Cup when they beat Benin 2-0 in their final Group C game yesterday.
Egypt, gunning for an unprecedented third title in a row, had already secured top spot in the group after victories over Nigeria and Mozambique.
Nigeria went through with a 3-0 win over Mozambique who were sent packing along with Benin.
Defender Ahmed Al Muhammadi opened the scoring for Egypt with a long-range cross that caught Yoann Djidonou off guard and Emad Motaeb doubled the tally on 23 minutes, slotting home after a superb save by the Benin keeper.
