Attorney-at-law Gordon Gilhuys will be heading the Interim Management Committee (IMC) set up by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) to run the affairs of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) after a meeting held Tuesday last at the federation’s headquarters. Following a failure by the GFA body to hold their AGM within a stipulated time frame given to them by the local governing body, an IMC was set up and they were given the principal task of holding the elections on or before the completion of their three-month life span.
Contacted by Stabroek Sport last evening, Gilhuys said that the IMC has not met formally to discus their terms of reference and so he is not at liberty to speak broadly on their directive.
However, he said that they will be working in cohesion to have their job done in the time frame given. The first meeting of the IMC would be held on January 26 at 6:30 pm in the conference room of the GFF. Subsequently, Gilhuys said, the media would be invited to a press briefing to be brought up to speed with their plans for the game in Georgetown.
“As a matter of fact, we would be meeting every Tuesday at 6:30 to update each other on what’s going on. As of today (yesterday) we have begun working.
We have done some work so I think we have to wait and see how things work out but I think we are ready to restore that confidence that was lost,” Gilhuys said. The former magistrate who was once the President of the BK International Western Tigers Football Club will have Adepemo Peters as the second-in-command. Lieutenant Com-mander Vernon Burnett is the IMC secretary, Aubrey Henry is the treasurer and Odinga Lumumba is the tournament coordinator.
According to the specific terms of reference established by the GFF for the IMC, they are to complete tournaments and programmes currently in progress and to rationalize the accounts of the association by way of an audit.
The IMC also has to confirm that affiliate clubs are properly constituted and ensure arrangements for the early scheduling of an AGM of the association and the election of office bearers.
