A city businessman was left in shock yesterday when three armed gunmen attacked him in front of his Bel Air Park home and relieved him of $5M before fleeing in a car.
The police, in a press release, said the robbery occurred around 11:25 am, when the businessman was attacked and robbed by the armed bandits.
Investigations, police said, revealed that the victim and his driver had just returned home. As their motor vehicle stopped, a car drove up from which three armed men exited.
They held the two at gunpoint and took away a bag containing the $5 million and escaped.
When Stabroek News visited the businessman at his home, he said that he preferred not to recount his ordeal, adding that he “has always been careful” and this is the first instance he has been robbed.
Asking that his name not be published, the businessman said that he was about to enter his yard when the gunmen pounced on him. He said that he did not hesitate to give the bandits the money. The police responded promptly, he reported.
Meanwhile, residents only knew of the incident after it had happened. One man said that he was walking to the front of the yard when he saw a silver grey car speeding south before turning the corner.
