A porter, a driver and a salesman of Survival Supermarket were yesterday jointly charged with stealing six cases of Guinness when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
Porter Khemraj Wilfred, 26 and driver Carlos Duncan, 57, of 47 North Sophia pleaded not guilty to stealing six cases of Guinness at $5,400 each, a total value of $32,400, property of Tameshwar Arjune, the owner of Survival Supermarket.
Salesman Wayne Archer, 30, pleaded guilty but with explanation. Archer who resides at 53 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown told the court that he had received a call from Khemraj who told him he had the six cases of Guinness. He said Duncan and the porter took the six cases to a shop in Kingston.
He said the shop girl had called him. “She tell me they drop off the drinks and I tell she keep it. I call Mr Arjune and me and Mr Arjune went…”
Archer said that as he and Arjune were on their way to the shop, Duncan called and he put him on speaker for Arjune to listen in on the conversation so he could “know what is going on.”
Meanwhile, Arjune said theft is something that goes on regularly at his business.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Telford asked for bail to be refused. He said that on the day in question Wilfred was given specific instructions to purchase the Guinness at Banks DIH and take it to the supermarket’s bond.
On uplifting the drinks, Telford said, Wilfred went to the bar at Kingston and told the bartender that Archer said to leave it there. Subsequently Archer informed the VC and together they went to the location where Wilfred and Duncan two were found with the drinks.
After Telford finished speaking, Duncan, who had declined to speak earlier asked to say something. He told the court Archer had called them and told then to “drop six cases off” at the bar.
The men were then placed on $60,000 bail each and they are to return to Court Three on February 15.
