Dead is Davendra Bholanaught, 33, of Owen Street, Kitty who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Hospital after undergoing emergency surgery to remove the bullet.
A close relative told this newspaper that the doctor had given Bholanauth a 50/50 chance of survival because of the extent of the damage to his liver, stomach and pancreas.
The man stated too that the businessman had been sedated and despite the prognosis given by the doctor they were praying that he would “pull through”.
The relative yesterday expressed satisfaction with the pace of the police investigations saying that the investigators are looking at all angles. Meanwhile the dead man’s wife Julie Bholanauth was distraught when contacted by this newspaper.
The woman expressed disbelief that her husband was no more and called on the police to bring his killers to justice.
The robbery which occurred on Monday around 8:30 pm appeared to be well planned as based on eyewitness accounts, the two “very young” attackers were watching Bholanauth from across the road just before they stormed the Sheriff Street taxi base.
According to reports, the businessman was seated alongside the dispatcher when the men entered. They were acting suspiciously. The dispatcher reportedly inquired whether they were interested in credit for their mobiles, while Bholanauth was occupied on his laptop computer. The men ignored the dispatcher, pushed him aside and approached Bholanauth.
From accounts, Bholanauth resisted the men when they attempted to take his laptop and the gold jewellery he was wearing but was shot during the commotion. The men later fled with the valuables.
A senior police source had told this newspaper a day after the shooting that at least one of the perpetrators in this incident may have been involved in an armed robbery in Cul-de-Sac Street, North Ruimveldt hours earlier, based on descriptions that were given.
Police in a press release yesterday said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Up to press time no arrests had been made.
Bholanauth also leaves behind two children, ages six and three.
