Alexis Felix, 29, appeared before Magistrate Nigel Hawke at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court accused of murdering her three-week-old son Alvin Felix. She was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until February 16.
A post-mortem examination performed on the baby showed that he died by drowning.
According to reports, Alexis Felix, who has a history of mental illness, threw the baby into the canal around 6 am and hours later went to the spot along with relatives and retrieved the baby.
Colin Griffith, 52, of Golden Fleece, WCB, who said he was the baby’s father, told Stabroek News that the infant will be laid to rest today.
