Dexter Daniels, 40, of Lot 98 Kara Kara Scheme, Mackenzie, Linden appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of break and enter and larceny while still on a one-year bond.
Daniels was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment. After the charge was read to the defendant he pleaded not guilty but subsequently begged to change his plea after the police prosecution had objected to bail. He then confessed to committing the offence.
The court was told that on January 18 at Kara Kara, Linden, Daniels broke and entered the home of Nellie Sooklall and stole one knife valued $1,000 and $700 in cash which were left on a table.
Sooklall was awakened to a rumbling sound in her house on the day in question and then she came face to face with the accused.
An alarm was raised and he fled through the back door which he had prized open to gain entry. He was later arrested.
