A 34-year-old Linden man who is accused of the possession of cannabis will be spending the next few weeks behind bars after he was refused bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan when he appeared before her at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that Marlon Charles on Monday at One Mile, Wismar, Linden had in his possession 13 grams of cannabis.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Attorney-at-law Leslyn Innis-Charles failed to convince the magistrate that the defendant would return to court for his next hearing if he were granted bail.
The police prosecutor objected to the defence counsel’s bail application, noting that there were conflicting addresses for the defendant and he was not likely to show up for the next hearing.
The attorney told the court that the defendant resides at 96 Canvas City, Wismar, Linden where she said he has lived for seven years.
However, upon his arrest he had given his address as 121 Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden.
The accused is to return to court on February 16.
