President of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Bissoondyal Singh yesterday extended congratulations to the newly-elected president of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Roger Harper.
Singh expressed similar sentiments as Claude Raphael, Chairman of Selections in the GCB, noting that Harper is the right person for the job and that cricket in the city will receive “a shot in the arm.” In an e-mail to Stabroek News Singh indicated that he hoped that Harper will work with the DCB and the GCB to improve the standard of cricket, not only in the city or Demerara, but in Guyana. His message follows: “Now that you have just been elected President of the Georgetown Cricket Association, I want to extend to you my heartfelt, warm congratulations to you and your executives.
“I sincerely hope that your mandate provides the opportunity, as you yourself wish to see Guyana and West Indies cricket back on top where it belongs.
“It is without a doubt a pleasure for me as President of the Demerara Cricket Board to have the opportunity to work with you and your team.
“ It is indeed an honour for me to have recognised your dedication and devotion to the development of this great game of cricket and the sterling contribution as a player, coach and administrator.
“We are very happy that you have decided to come on board and a grand welcome is extended. I am extremely confident that the exuberance you have shown at the West Indies level will be brought to the Georgetown Cricket Association table and will certainly lift the quality of the game throughout Guyana.
“You have made significant contributions to the success of our national team and your knowledge of the game and the desire to do the right things and do them right as exemplified at the West Indies level will augur well for cricket in Guyana.
“Your timely entry into our cricket administration will be a phenomenal boost to the quality of our cricket management. Cricket not only in Guyana but also in the West Indies is a cause for concern and at this time there is a necessity for a stable hand; one that is peaceable, a conciliator who is determined to unite all factions with a view to make cricket the winner. You my friend are the quintessence of that one.
“In that regard, I offer you my sincere congratulations and wish you and your team well as you take hold of the mantle of leadership of the Georgetown Cricket Association. Congratulations and best wishes my friend.”
