Over the last five years, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTYSC) has invested millions of dollars on youth development as the key to the club’s development.
It is also the belief of the club that its young cricketers not only develop their skills on the cricket field but also become positive role models through discipline, hard work, honesty and commitment.
In a release from the club yesterday, it stated that “the years of investment has started to produce positive results with the RHTYSC winning all the junior cricket tournaments organised by the Berbice Cricket Board over the last year.”
The Farfan & Mendes under-15 team won the Tenelec under-15 title, the Bakewell under-17 carted off the Leslie Amsterdam Memorial under-17 Tournament, and the DDL/Pepsi under-19 team was crowned champions of the Spready’s under-19 Cup with the Gizmos & Gadgets under-23 taking home the Peter Lewis/Associated Construction Services under-23 title.
In addition the Metro female team last weekend won the national female title while the seniors won the 2009 Busta Champion of Champions, ABS 40-over title and the Berbice Neal & Massy title.
The RHTYSC was also the runner-up team in the Berbice Tenelec Inc 50-over and the national Neal and Massy tournaments. These achievements earned them the accolade of the Guyana Cricket Board’s 2009 Club-of-the-Year at its awards ceremony.
The management and members of the RHTYSC have expressed pride in the status of being the number one cricket club in Guyana.
The release further stated that the importance of youth cannot be overestimated since the management of the club strongly believes that the youngsters are the future, along with the more established players like the Crandon brothers, Assad Fudadin and Delbert Hicks.
The club said it aims to remain the best in the future with a membership which currently stands at 153 cricketers with the oldest player being 30 and almost 90% of the members being below the age of 18 years.
The club also expressed profound gratitude to the Management of Bakewell, Farfan & Mendes, DDL/Pepsi, Metro Office and Computer Supplies and Gizmos & Gadgets for their support.
The RHTYSC added that it hopes the relationship will continue to grow in the future.
Special mention was also made of the Windies Sports Bar and Courts Guyana Inc. for their investment in the past. The club also thanked all the media outlets that have given coverage to its successes over the years.
