The Aditya Foundation of Bath Settlement has stepped in to give a 24-year-old resident of Tucber Park, New Amsterdam a chance to live by contributing $200,000 towards an open heart surgery for him. Seon Springer, a basketball player of Tucber Park, New Amsterdam collapsed in May, 2008 while playing.
He was later diagnosed with regurgitation of the aortic valve, which has caused him excessive tiredness. The surgery is scheduled for some time this month in Barbados and a lot more money is still needed.
Shortly after the handing over, President of the Aditya Foundation Archie Mohan told Stabroek News via telephone that that it was a pleasure to help someone who seemed to be full of potential. He said Seon deserves a chance to survive. He said although the foundation is focusing on “helping kids, we still decided to assist this young man.” Mohan said Seon’s mother, Maxine Williams, had approached him for assistance and when a member of the foundation in Canada, Elvis Rose [a former resident of Tucber Park] reminded him about the boy’s condition, he was more than willing to help.
Williams and Seon were very grateful to the Aditya Foundation for the help. (In photo, vice president, Mahendra Persaud looks on as a child, Aditya, hands over the money to Seon.)
