KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – All-rounder Nkrumah Bonner could make his first class debut for Jamaica after being one of four players called up for the next round of matches in the WICB regional first class championship.
The 21-year-old, a solid lower order batsman and right-arm leg-spinner, has been named in the 13-man squad along with fast bowlers Andre Russell and Jason Dawes, and off-spinner Bevon Brown ahead of the next series starting February 12.
They will replace Brendan Nash, Nikita Miller and Wavell Hinds who are on West Indies duty, and fast bowler Daren Powell who has quit the team for the rest of the season.
Bonner played two regional one-day matches for the West Indies Under-19 in 2007 but has failed to break into either the Jamaica or the Combined Campuses and Colleges four-day team.
He was prolific in his only trial for the CCC side prior to the start of the season, scoring 108 and snatching three wickets but was overlooked nonetheless.
Bonner replaced Simon Jackson in the CCC squad for the last round of matches but failed to make the final XI.
Jamaica will leave for Guyana next Tuesday where they will clash with the CCC in their fifth round fixture at the National Stadium at Providence.
The championship leaders will meet Barbados at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad in the penultimate series from February 19-22 before closing out their campaign in Grenada against Trinidad & Tobago from February 26 to March 1.
SQUAD – Tamar Lambert (captain), Brenton Parchment, Danza Hyatt, Donovan Pagon, David Bernard, Jr., Carlton Baugh, Jr, Odean Brown, Andrew Richardson, Shawn Findlay, Andre Russell, Nkrumah Bonner, Bevon Brown and Jason Dawes.
